Akhil Jonnavithula is a Business Development Manager of Optix Solutions, a UK based digital marketing and web development agency. He is responsible for designing and implementation of Go To Market Strategy, heading Market expansion for Optix Academy, India. Earlier, Akhil also co-founded Millionth Mile in India, a branding and digital marketing startup, which was featured on YourStory, Silicon India, Yahoo Finance, Daily Hunt and CEO Insights Magazine. Today we got a chance to interview him, Lets know more about him & his journey.

Excerpts from our exclusive interview with him:

Q1) Tell us a little bit about your journey?

 I have always been a startup enthusiast. I have co-founded Millionth Mile in India, a branding and digital marketing startup after I have graduated from Lovely Professional University, Punjab along with a couple of friends of mine. Our startup was featured on YourStory, Silicon India, Yahoo Finance, Daily Hunt and CEO Insights Magazine. We had a lean-mean team focused on serving to the local clients in the city of Visakhapatnam.

We later dropped our plans to scale the startup to the next level due to the fact that I realized serving to local clients is something that we can do in a limited scale and the major drawback for service based, small businesses is the scalability. And moreover, the pandemic has affected many businesses and startups across the country which made us re-think upon our future plans. I have decided to pursue my Master’s in Marketing in the United Kingdom as there’s a lot of uncertainty and change in the demand of digital marketing services from Small and Medium Business owners in the country due to economic fluctuations.

That’s when I got an opportunity to meet Mr. Robert Stevens, the Managing Director of Optix Solutions, a UK based and an Award-Winning Digital Agency in Exeter, Devon which is in the business from the past 21+ years. We had a detailed conversation on how they are planning to expand their business and this gave me an opportunity to understand their future goals as a company.

I have had a couple of interactions with him and the board of directors allowing me to explain what kind of value I can deliver to the company before being appointed as a Business Development Manager. I am currently responsible for designing and implementation of Go-To-Market strategy, heading up Market expansion for Optix Digital Academy (a subsidiary of Optix Solutions) as the Academy aims to test new markets for its digital marketing courses.

Q2) Can you tell how your transition from Entrepreneur to Intrapreneur has been?

I would say, it is very challenging. As an Entrepreneur, I used to work with a lot of pace and my primary duty was to get things done no matter what. When I was given an opportunity to work for Optix Solutions as a Business Development Manager, I was moving faster and tried to push forward the initiatives with pace. But I quickly realized that companies like Optix Solutions which are in business from a very long time, work in a different way. I realized I must trust the process and go slow by following the organization’s standardized process of doing business.

Having said that, the board of directors Rob, James Dawkins and Alastair Banks have been extremely supportive. They have given me complete freedom to come up with new ideas and made me feel comfortable by letting me realize that I am a part of the system now. Becky Brennan, the Head of Learning at Optix Solutions has always supported me and instilled confidence that I could take up this role.

Q3)  Would you mind sharing your success secret?

LinkedIn has been my secret tool for success. I believe the potential of LinkedIn is still unexplored and underrated by many people. LinkedIn helped me get my current job. I believe the success of any working professional depends upon the network they have and connections they maintain with industry leaders. LinkedIn exactly helps us do the same. It’s important to network with people, share our opinions and acknowledge other’s achievements, engage with people we want to and build long-lasting professional relationships on this wonderful platform.

I have been active on LinkedIn from the past 5 years and I can’t thank this platform enough as it gave me the freedom to explore new opportunities, connect and follow industry leaders, follow industry insights and much more. I have been educating students and job aspirants through webinars on how to leverage LinkedIn to the fullest w.r.t achieving professional success and how to build a personal brand online.

Q4) Tell us a bit about Optix Academy and it’s future plans?

The Optix Digital Academy is a digital marketing courses providing platform which has been developed with the help of industry insights so that you can learn core digital marketing skills to start using today. Our aim is to break down Digital Marketing into actionable content that is easy to digest, practical and applies to real world examples. We are launching in India very soon with special launch offers making it easy for students and digital marketing enthusiasts to sign up for the course and upskill without any second thoughts.

We are also providing courses to marketing professionals with a corporate learning program.
