Excerpts from our exclusive interview with him:
Q1) Tell us a little bit about your start-up and your journey, please;
I always plan things in advance with multiple choices, but firmly believe and stick to one motive thinking both Negative & Positive aspects of what I want to do or doing currently. I had many other business ideas in different areas. Still, because of various difficulties, they all failed I couldn’t implement them. Again, I was very strong that I want to build my business empire and be a role model for the youth and society, so while researching the overseas education for two consequent years on many things.
I decided to apply for UK Universities and to do that I enquired online then many consultancies from Bangalore approached me to process my application with them. And here again, I have faced many different difficulties at one point of time I stopped my desire to study abroad and lost hopes in life. But, something was triggering me I couldn’t sleep because I only do things what I like most heart-fully. With more perfection so then again, I started working climbing step by step myself without any support then finally I reached the UK on October 17th 2019 to begin my new life to study MBA Masters of Business Administration.
Along the whole process of me studying in the UK, so many people laughed at me that you can’t make it happen, but within few days I managed to prove them they were wrong by getting successful admission and offer letters from 7 UK Universities, So in the process of application I have shifted to different consultancies because of improper response and negligence.
After a few days of coming here, I thought the students should not face the problems what I have faced during my admission/application process. Then I decided to start one study abroad education consultancy business. And finally, on 15th December 2019 I am successful in launching my first ever website in the name “Edupilot” with the name Edupilot Overseas Education Consultancy with the main motive to create “Successful Global Graduates”, and our tagline is “The Possibilities are Endless…” so far I have invested my savings earnings etc. and helped 7 to 10 students without charging a single penny. They were very happy with what I did.
Q2) How did the idea for your business/start-up come about?
Along the process of coming to study in the UK, so many people laughed on me that you can’t make it happen. Still, within a few days, I proved they were wrong by getting successful admission, and 7 UK University offer letters. So in the process of application, I have shifted to different consultancies because of improper response and negligence.
After few days of coming here, I thought the students should not face the problems what I have faced during my admission/application process then I decided to start one study abroad education consultancy business and finally on 15th December 2019 I am successful in launching my first ever website in the name “Edupilot” with the name Edupilot Overseas Education Consultancy with the main motive to create “Successful Global Graduates”, and our tagline is “The Possibilities are Endless…” so far I have invested 1.5 lakhs with my savings earnings, etc. and helped 7 to 10 students without charging a single penny and they were very happy for what I did.
Q3) What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
I choose Entrepreneurship over my career because my main aim is to be an Entrepreneur. I can have full control over my goals and destiny. I would like to improve and also want to grow up myself rather than being a toy in the hands of someone. I want to be a king who rules his own kingdom, and right now in this position, I am building my kingdom. And, at the same time, I am also pursuing my MBA along with it. And when I go back to my place I want to go with my will full of knowledge, confidence and capacity to become an entrepreneur and to do good to the people who are expecting the same. I want to build an environment where people want to grow with me.
Everything inside the car is not the world. Because it is the world to make new things for an entrepreneur and in this competitive cutting edge world if there is a person who is living taking difficulties and facing the challenges and living happily the person is who is nothing but no other than an entrepreneur.
I also read many success stories of young people in society. When I was 14 years old, I was recruited by Google. Studying in the 6th is acting as a principal of the school and many more stories like this. I was always getting inspired by such news, and I am a person who always willing to take a risk and new challenges in my day to day life apart from all this we will have more responsibility on our business.
Moreover, it’s a new challenge, and now we do create a competitive business which creates a greater impact on society. And only a few people can do things like this and to do this one person should have a lot of planning, hard work, dedication, strategies, leadership skills, perseverance then only the person can think of doing something.
During my college, I choose Business mainly HR Human Resource intentionally because I am deeply passionate to build my own business and help the society mainly the youngsters who are struggling to decide what they need to in future. I am a very practical person first from bottom to top, so I am now learning and growing from the lower level to higher by analyzing all the levels of the business.
I always have a desire of owning multiple businesses under my own Brand or Trademark where it creates employment and service the society. Within the next five years, I want to build at least three sub-businesses under my main brand.
Q4) How did you come up with the name for your business/start-up?
When I was thinking about the business name, my first thought was my business name should have some meaningful name which also represents both the education and high level so then I decided to name my business as Edupilot where it is taken from EDU=Education, Pilot=An expert with complete qualified knowledge to lead can also be defined as (Leader, Most respectable position etc.). Overall, the intention of naming Edupilot is by thinking meaning “King of the Education Consultancy” in the current field.
Q5) What service(s) or product(s) do you offer/manufacture?
The services that I @ Edupilot offers are:
- Overseas Education
- Career Counseling
- International Student Identity Card
- IELTS And PTE Coaching
- Passport Assistance
- Visa Support
- Accommodation Support
- International Driving license
Q5) Why should people choose your product/services?
Many of the consultancies are not providing the above services. We have more services under one roof when compared to others we work for customer satisfaction and are very friendly with students for the better and faster process of the application to get admissions to their respective universities.
Q6) How do you market your business, and which tactics have been most successful?
Word of Mouth which is most powerful than any other medium which will make a greater impact on the people. And of course, other channels like Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, email, partnered members (includes friends, colleges, websites, etc.) are the channels I use to market my business.
Q7) What risks are you facing?
As a student, I am facing many risks, but my major risks which I am facing currently are in terms of finance, time, and staff and little personal lack of other support..! because all this mostly 95% of work is done by myself.
Q8) Have you considered any alliance/partnership/funding?
I am presenting my proposal to my university and looking forward to the startup in the UK right now and also seeking UK government support. At present, I am running my business on my self-funding and other savings. I have been successful in partnering with ITCA International Traffic Control Association for International Driving Document and looking forward to many others day by day as soon as possible.
Q9) What are your responsibilities as the business owner?
Discipline, Orderliness, and Ethics do come first for me, and I am a person who stands for the word and dies for that which I have inherited from my mother I will not compromise for anything if I am correct. Here in this day, competitive business environment lot of people get into the different business fields in order to make money where emotions turn meaningless. But I want to help people grow along with me heartfully.
Q10) How many hours a day do you work on average & can you describe/outline your typical day?
Apart from telling you how many hours a day on average I work I would like to say that all my free time except my college hours, I work for my business on various things in many different ways to improve day by day.
Q11) What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?
I have faced financial problems as I said earlier, I am from a middle-class family and to study abroad I took a loan of 26 lakhs from SBI where I have no option to take a risk in a business establishing a business. Being brave and strong, I implemented my business idea, and as so far, I am doing well. The main challenge in today’s business is to create a successful brand that makes an impact on society.
I also had no support and proper guidance since I am not from a business background family which made me difficult to think what to do at a perfect time and how to implement because reading in books and telling others is easy but when it comes to the process of implementation it is very difficult and hard here every single small thing also matters a lot.
Q12) What comes first for you money or emotions?
Firstly, I would say money does not matter to me because I do not believe money can make anything or solve all the problems. After all, every section of the society rich and poor both have problems as we see. Discipline, Orderliness, and Ethics do come first for me, and I am a person who stands for the word and dies for that which I have inherited from my mother I will not compromise for anything if I am correct. Here in this day to day, competitive business environment lot of people get into the different business fields to make money where emotions turn meaningless. But I want to help people grow along with me heartfully, of course by doing this money automatically follows the way.
I know business is much of difficulties and challenges. I want to say this because it may be difficult, but after one month and after that, we are confident to put our product in the minds of the target customers something that might not be easy but when I target audience it as an emotional but not as inner economically making money yes of course.
Emotions are greater than everything money will flow like anything if we do good business, so I am also concerned about the not only making money but considering emotions also with the intention to look forward to getting money.
Q13) Tell us about your early life & How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?
I am SHASHIKUMAR RAVI son of RAVI V AND SHANTHA and also the brother of TEJASKUMAR RAVI born in a poor, middle-class family in the typical village called Oddapalli which comes under Hosur Taluk, Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, where speaking English is very hard. And it’s impossible because there is no platform to speak English which is located 35kms far from Bangalore City which is the Silicon Valley of India and later we got shifted to the nearest town called Bagalur. I live in along with the work, and people love English so that I am not exactly I keep growing.
My mother is a housewife, and my father worked as daily labour to give us a happy and desired life from my childhood till now. Still, the happiest thing for me till now is even though if they are facing a lot of problems my parents never ever asked to help them or stop my education instead they always forced us to study in reputed schools and colleges by seeing all this I myself decided. Hence, not to give much burden to my parents, I never ask anything if it was more necessary or compulsory. We have struggled a lot without any support which I cannot explain in words, but it always rolls in front of my eyes like a video. I had many sleepless nights feeling bad for myself that I cannot do or get what I wish for.
I did my metric from New Oxford High School and then further studied CEBA PU from Krupanidhi Residential College from Bangalore but failed in 3 subjects but cleared them and later started studying B.com from the same college where I did my PU. Still, I discontinued because of some reasons and was in depression for a few days and then later studied Bachelors of Human Resource Development from a famous and Well renowned college of Karnataka Alva’s College in Moodbidri. Now I am currently pursuing MBA Masters of Business Administration from the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom (Great Britain).
I am always different from others thinking practically instead of theoretical approach and not book based this not what I say myself. Usually, many of my friends say this to me. I always aspired to have a strong belief in myself to become one of the young achievers by helping people and society by growing around along with. These are not just the words I am writing, but it is about the daily routine practical life, which I applied throughout my life.
“So many people including family, relatives and friends insulted and laughed at me that you are nothing but just a failure and threw stones towards me, but I gathered those stones threw towards me and used those stones to build a bridge towards my success in life that’s the main reason today I am standing here like this in front of the society becoming more successful day by day.
I have many good friends like everyone has and there is someone special in everyone’s life. CHAITHRA REDDY She is like the bridge, or I can say the glory god put her across me in my life, my first ever motivator in life except for my MOM and DAD no matter how far we are but still wish good for each other. She will remain as special women in my life where no one can replace her till my last breath”.
I had no one to help or guide me on how to build my life successful. I have struggled a lot and a lot to achieve my goals and still working on them.
Always while seeing and reading the success stories of young minds in society, I felt bad for myself that I am nothing in front of them except my father’s son. Hence, at that movement, I decided to build life strong and successful working along in creating my own identity in society. Therefore, I started to work on this past many years in way different ways but was very hard and difficult for me to do because of various factors, including communication skills, stage fear, financial background. I have generated many different startup ideas and business plans, but because of lack of support and guidance, I failed in all, but I did not lose my hopes towards success.
I think this would be very important to say that I am not a rank student or good scoring guy, but I am just an average student like many among all other students in the class but had a strong belief in myself that I will reach a higher place and build my success. To build a long path this way, I always keep learning from my past mistakes. This is the absolute best thing worked and helped me to develop myself.
To improve my knowledge and skills, I always kept digging through the internet of things for latest information through technology. I always have a great passion for technology, and I can use a computer and software like a professional and all my friends my well-wishers call me techie. And if they have any problem with laptops, mobiles and software’s they just remember me at first to seek my support.
Apart from all of this to gain more knowledge, I have studied Diploma in Tally 9.0, Payroll Administration and also NDLM National Digital Literacy Mission exam which is certified by the central government of India under the scheme of Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) and Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India. And also worked in computer tutorial centre named Sri Harsha Computer Education Center which is registered and certified for one year by handling whole institute and teaching student’s basic computer skills like Ms-Word, Excel, Powerpoint and various software.
I also gave the best advice and presentation to CMI Charted Management Institute in the UK on the topic Management 4.0 the impact of emerging technologies on the industry. Also, I did research projects on the topics called “Recruitment and Selection” and “Performance Appraisal” which merely connects to the current world and my career. And also worked as the Auditing Executive for OYO Rooms and did internships and projects in different areas.
Currently, I am studying other different courses apart from my MBA and business, which are linked to the current world and technology. I can say these courses are my passion.
- 1. The Complete Ethical Hacking Course (Beginner to Advanced!).(Completed)
- 2. SAP BI/SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence. (Completed)

During my college days, I took part in major contests and competitions since I was referred by almost all the teachers of the various departments this was the time where I identified myself in me and started working on various things to achieve success in life. I am a person who strongly believes that growth and success have no ultimate end limit and gives no value for money but for the people, values, Ethics, Norms, relationships so I helped many people around me irrespective of their necessities to develop themselves along with me. Still, I do that I am always open to spread my knowledge and explore.
I am a passionate individual from the beginning and always aspired to be one of the youngest achievers by delivering high values and performance in all walks and levels of society. When I had no choices left mainly 2 of my teachers, I can say they are my well-wishers. Also, friends named Chandrashekar Mayya Sir from the Sociology department and Guru Prasad K.J from management supported me a lot. Even though I came across many other teachers at different levels of my education, their words brought many changes in me. Though I am at a far distance now still I take their suggestions and guidance in my day to day life.
I must say that my brother is one of the best gifts that God gave me apart from my parents. However, he was not up to my expectation; he helped me in all ways and mainly financially to do all this by sacrificing his happiness. Again I need to say that from my childhood to till now apart from my family, no one helped me nor believed having good faith in me. Still, after this journey, they now wait for my call to talk whatever I did is of my own thinking, creation, hard work with sleepless nights.
Q14) What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs??
I have learnt in my journey so far that one main thing which matters a lot is having good faith in yourself and not compromising with your dreams for any reason. There is no age limit to be an entrepreneur. There is no one too old nor too young. Do whatever it takes to make it happen. When everybody thinks what we dream of is a fairy tale is the most important thing. This is what exactly I believe in.
I believe in my principle that is 3L’s. Life >> Long >> LearningShashikumar Ravi
When you dream about becoming an Entrepreneur that is the very first stepping stone for your business idea and keep in mind that not everyone thinks like this, it means we are out of the box and should always think differently from everyone which makes you unique.
Many people still believe and agree on the different meanings and titles for success, but when it comes to me, I just say success cannot be defined easily. It has no end; it’s indefinite; it’s the initial part of your new journey.
And finally, try to make failures, where you can learn and become strongest among everyone, don’t think about the society and people who don’t value and care and waste your time it is very precious which cannot be brought back.
